From Earth to Shelf

PREPERATION & PLANNING

Today from my NW Turret Mount Edgcumbe, I am coordinating and planning for our next expedition. We are going back into the mountains, higher in altitude to remote mountain village called Pangboche ASL 4000m. The reason is last winter, I was asked if I could help buy winter clothes for the mountain school children because their parents connot afford anything to keep their children warm as they walked to school. How could I say no, Remember their are no roads courier deliveries everything had to be sent to Kathmandu then flown up to Lukla and met by porters to carry them for a further 2 days to reach the school. Each child received what I call sleeping bag torusers lightweight super warm and comfy to wear. photo below of the mountain school children wearing their new winter trousers.

This got me thinking, that there must be more that I can do to help support these children. Pangboche Basic children are from Rai families who are originally from lower altitudes and go to the higher altitudes to look after the Yaks and build mountain terrance to grow crops root vegtables. Many of the Rai families are extremely poor with minimal education and struggle to send their children to school. after chatting to the children they dream of going to school and studying hard so that one day they could become Engineers, Doctors and Teachers.

WHAT CAN WE DO TO MAKE DREAMS COME TRUE?

Firstly every school needs an identity a brand logo. A school sign and every school child needs their own uniform. Step one designed a new school brand logo which could be printed onto the school uniform and sign to represent the school. (A school unifom is a great feeling for the child to feel they are part of the school and it also helps the parents by taking the pressure and worry away). Pangboche Basic School logo below.

With the logo we started to create a winter unifom, starting with a winter Jacket which has been already sent to the children. Lots of big smiles

Every child at Pangboche Basic school will be receiving a full uniform with the new school logo on, including all weather mountain gear for the extreme harsh winters plus mountain boots. (no more sharing because every child will have their own).

All our Humanitarian projects are funded through product sales.

Pangboche Basic school will recieve 3 x laptops for the teachers, educational supplies, posters and a classroom makeover.

We are also aiming to connect a British school to Pangboche so each school can learn from one another and build friendships inspire each other and even zoom into each others classroom to see how they can help each other.

This Expedition I have invited Jade Scott who I contracted in to help me with my social media, I thought the best way to fully understand what I do - the 'What, Why, How' is to see with your own eyes and Christina Dawn Azzopardi a girl from the Valleys, Army wife for over 30yrs and in need of an extreme adventure. I think Christina was excitedly shocked to be invited on expedition. We all need to step out of our comfort zones and inspire, empower one another.
