THE NUT

Tamanu (Calophyllum Inophyllum). The local children collect the nuts from along the shoreline and bring them to our hub, we pay each child for all the nuts they collect. Their mother's first crack the nuts and the seeds removed which are then dried in the hot sun for 1-2 months. A dark sticky sap oil will appear on the surface allowing the oil to accumulate in the seeds. The seeds are then deshelled and fruit seed is pressed to extract the oil.

The extracted Tamanu oil is rich in fatty acids, Alpha-linolecic acid, Oleic acid, Linoleic acid, Palmitic acid and Arachidonic acid. Many of these essential fatty acids are naturally found in your body and are used to lubricate your skin and keep it healthy. (Not having enough fatty acids changes your skin structure & function).
